Parikia is the more practical, better-value and easier base, especially if it’s your first time on the island, you’re travelling with family, using buses, or arriving by ferry at an awkward hour.
Our first stay was in Parikia because it made sense: the port was right there, transport was simple, and we could explore the island without too much planning. But on our next visit, we stayed in Naoussa and immediately understood why so many people fall for it — those glowing whitewashed streets, wine by the harbour, and easy boat trips to beaches like Kolymbithres and Monastiri really are special.

Should You Stay in Parikia or Naoussa?
After spending time in both Naoussa and Parikia across different trips to Paros, we can honestly say they feel like two distinct holidays on the same island.
On our first visit, we chose Parikia because it was close to the ferry port, easier on the budget and brilliant for getting around by bus. It was exactly what we needed while figuring out the island and exploring without hiring a car straight away. The sunsets were incredible, and evening walks through the old town quickly became one of our favourite little routines.
Then, on our second trip, we switched to Naoussa and suddenly all the hype made sense. It has elegant dinners around the old marina, boutique hotels, pretty lanes and a fun bar-hopping scene; it’s the kind of place that makes Paros feel extra romantic and memorable. We also really enjoyed the nearby beaches and our visit to Moraitis Winery!
If we had to choose? For a romantic, stylish getaway, we’d choose Naoussa again without hesitation. But Parikia is hard to beat for convenience, affordability and first-time visitors — especially if you’re not renting a car in Paros.

Parikia Or Naoussa: Nightlife
We’re not exactly wild party people anymore; give us a few excellent sunset cocktails, relaxed music and a pretty marina view, and that’s our perfect night. For that kind of atmosphere, Naoussa is easily our favourite.
The nightlife in Naoussa is centred around its gorgeous marina, where bars spill onto the waterfront and fairy lights shimmer across the fishing boats. It feels polished but still easygoing, and you can happily wander from one cocktail spot to the next without much of a plan. One of our best evenings on Paros was at Salty Cocktail Bar, sitting above the marina with an Aperol spritz while the sky slowly turned pink. It was buzzing, scenic and social, but never overwhelming — exactly the balance we like.
Parikia nightlife is more spread out along the seafront. It feels more casual and generally a little cheaper, with a mix of relaxed cafés, beach bars and easy-going music spots. It’s fun, but it doesn’t have the same concentrated energy or magical after-dark setting as Naoussa. Think sunset beers by the water rather than elegant cocktails under twinkling lights.

Which Area in Paros Is Best for Beaches?
If your trip is all about beaches, the good news is that both Naoussa and Parikia put you close to some of Paros’ best swimming spots, so neither choice is a bad one.
If you want to walk from town straight to the beach, then Parikia has the edge. Livadia Beach is just an easy stroll from the centre, and Marcelo Beach is a short boat ride away. It’s wonderfully simple, especially if you’re not planning to rent a car.
However, if you want to be near the most spectacular beaches in Paros, we’d lean toward Naoussa. You’ll usually need to drive or hop on a boat shuttle, but the beaches nearby are genuinely stunning — clear turquoise water, sculpted rocks and beach clubs that look like they belong in a glossy travel feature.

Because we rented a car, our base didn’t make a huge difference for beach days — we could easily drive between Naoussa and Parikia and visit whichever beach suited the weather. It gave us the freedom to chase calm seas, stop at viewpoints and explore more spontaneously, which we’d definitely recommend if your budget allows.

If you’re travelling with a smaller budget, or you want easy access to the ferry, buses, supermarkets and beaches you can reach on foot, then Parikia is a brilliant base. There’s a wide choice of places to stay here, from simple studios and family apartments to good-value boutique hotels.
We stayed in Parikia on our first Paros trip when our priority was exploring the whole island, and it made everything very straightforward — especially arriving by ferry later in the day. Since we also rented a car, it was still easy to reach Naoussa, beaches and viewpoints whenever we wanted.

Naoussa is all about ambience, marina views and beautifully presented food. It’s the place for slow dinners, fresh seafood, creative cocktails and candlelit tables by the water. In the evening, the harbour is almost too pretty — whitewashed lanes glowing under fairy lights, boats bobbing gently in the marina, and the smell of grilled octopus drifting through the air. It genuinely feels cinematic.
We loved eating out in Naoussa. Sitting by the marina with a glass of wine, watching the boats and feeling the town slowly come alive for the night — that’s the kind of Greek island memory that stays with you long after the tan fades.

For sunset views, Parikia is the obvious winner. The sun drops straight into the Aegean in front of the harbour, turning the whole waterfront orange, gold and pink. We loved grabbing a drink and sitting on the wall near the Church of Agios Konstantinos, watching the boats come and go while the sky went full neon.
Naoussa is still gorgeous in the evening, with fairy lights sparkling across the marina and a wonderfully romantic mood, but you don’t get that direct sunset view in the same way. It’s beautiful, just more about atmosphere than watching the sun sink into the sea.

Naoussa Vs Parikia: Shopping
If you enjoy browsing for fashion, souvenirs or little holiday finds, you might also be wondering whether Naoussa or Parikia is better for shopping. Both towns have plenty to tempt you, but the style and price point are quite different.
Naoussa is the place for chic independent boutiques, resort wear, handmade jewellery and stylish pieces by small Greek designers. It’s exactly the kind of town where you head out “just for a look” and somehow return with a linen dress you definitely didn’t need but now absolutely adore (we’ve been there 🙋♀️).
Parikia, by contrast, offers a more relaxed and budget-friendly shopping experience, with souvenir shops, beachwear stores and some lovely smaller clothing boutiques that are much kinder to your wallet. It’s ideal for picking up gifts, last-minute essentials or casual holiday pieces.
We spent far too much time wandering through the shops in Naoussa one evening, and Robin had to gently steer me away from another boutique before I accidentally fell in love with a €400 dress! In Parikia, meanwhile, we found great-quality beach towels for about half the price.

Naoussa Or Parikia: Convenience & Transport
If your main question is “should I stay in Parikia or Naoussa for convenience?”, our honest answer is Parikia.
As the island’s capital and main port, it’s the transport hub of Paros. Ferries arrive and depart here, buses connect to the main towns and beaches, and you’ll have supermarkets, pharmacies, ATMs and everyday essentials within easy walking distance. It’s especially useful if you’re not planning to rent a car or you arrive late at night by ferry.
Naoussa is still connected, but it’s smaller and can feel a little less practical for getting around the island. Buses do run, though frequency depends on the season, so journeys can require more planning. Once you’re in Naoussa itself, however, the town is very walkable, including the marina, restaurants, bars and shops.
Because we rented a car during our trip, convenience wasn’t a huge issue for us — we could move between towns, beaches and viewpoints whenever we wanted without checking bus schedules. If you have your own wheels, the decision becomes much more about atmosphere than logistics.
