Wondering where to stay in Sarandë? The first thing to understand is that Sarandë isn’t a tiny seaside village where every hotel is tucked into the same compact beach zone. It’s a real coastal town — lively, developed, hilly in places, and the exact location of your accommodation can make a big difference.
We’ve stayed in Sarandë twice so far: once close to the port during busy August, and once near Maestral Beach in the off-season. Both worked well for us, but for completely different reasons — which is why picking the right area matters here more than you might expect.
For us, the ideal base is somewhere close enough to enjoy Sarande’s promenade, which is honestly one of the nicest parts of town. It’s great for a morning walk or run, and it really comes alive around sunset when locals, visitors, cafes, and restaurants all blend into that classic Albanian Riviera evening atmosphere.
In this guide, we’re sharing the best areas to stay in Sarandë based on the things that actually affect your trip: walkability, parking, beach access, ferry access, restaurants, and whether the neighbourhood works well as part of a wider Albania road trip.
Map of the Best Places to Stay in Sarandë
A map is genuinely helpful in Sarandë because distances can be a little deceptive. A hotel might look close to the water, but still involve a steep climb. Or a place may have incredible sea views, but be annoying if you want to walk to dinner every evening.

The biggest decision is whether you want to base yourself near the promenade and port, a little further south around Maestral Beach, or farther out towards Mango Beach.
For a short stay or a first trip, we’d keep things fairly central. If you’re staying longer, have a car, or want more space in an apartment, the port area can be surprisingly convenient. And if you’re after a more comfortable sea-view hotel experience, Maestral Beach and Rruga Butrinti are good places to look.
1️⃣ Central Sarandë / Promenade – Best for First Visits & Walking Everywhere
Central Sarandë is the easiest area to recommend for first-time visitors. This is where you’ll find the main promenade, plenty of restaurants and cafes, boat tour offices, bars, shops, and that lively Sarandë evening buzz the town does so well.

If you want to arrive, drop your bags, and keep logistics simple, this is the area to choose. You can walk to dinner, wander beside the sea, grab coffee, book a boat trip, and enjoy sunset without needing taxis or driving back and forth through town.
The promenade is one of our favourite things about Sarandë. In the morning, it’s ideal for a walk or a run along the waterfront. By evening, it becomes much busier, with families, couples, travellers, locals, and lots of people doing the classic holiday stroll. It’s not quiet or undiscovered, but it has a really enjoyable energy.
The downside? It gets busy, especially in high season. Parking can also be frustrating on the most central streets, and some accommodation may be noisy if it sits directly above restaurants or bars. Even so, if convenience is your top priority, this is the best area to stay in Sarandë.
Best for
First-time visitors, short trips, travellers without a car, restaurants, nightlife, boat tours, promenade walks, and anyone who wants to stay right in the middle of the action.
Not ideal if…
You’re looking for peace and quiet, easy parking, a resort-style beach break, or a more residential local feel. Central Sarandë is practical and fun, but it is not especially calm.
Best hotels in Sarandë near the promenade
🌟TOP Pick🌟

VILLA MARGARIT Boutique Hotel
VILLA MARGARIT Boutique Hotel is one of the strongest choices if you want to stay close to Sarandë’s promenade while still having a comfortable hotel experience. The big advantage is the pool– something you don’t always find in such a central, walkable location.
🌟TOP APARTMENT Pick🌟

Summer Depo
Summer Depo is a solid apartment-style option if you want more flexibility in central Sarandë. The units include kitchen facilities, which makes it especially useful for longer stays, relaxed breakfasts, and days when you don’t want to eat every meal out.
2️⃣ Port / Kodrra Area – Best for Ferries, Apartments & Longer Stays
The Port / Kodrra area is probably the most underrated place to stay in Sarandë, especially if practical things matter more to you than a picture-perfect hotel setting.

We stayed just behind the ferry port for two weeks in August, and it worked out really well. We had street parking near the port, a useful Spar supermarket close by, smaller local grocery shops for basics and fresh produce, and Petra Gym within easy reach. For a longer apartment stay, those details genuinely make a difference.
We could also walk to the central beaches in about 15 minutes, which felt completely manageable. It wasn’t the kind of stay where you step straight out of your hotel onto the sand, but it was convenient, practical, and surprisingly well-balanced for peak summer.

Another reason this area works well is the ferry access. If you’re arriving from Corfu or using Sarandë as a base for day trips, staying near the port is genuinely convenient, while still keeping you close enough to the centre, restaurants, and promenade.
We also found some excellent local food nearby. Taverna Fish Filipi, close to where we stayed, served fantastic seafood at really good prices. It’s exactly the kind of place that makes staying slightly away from the most obvious tourist strip feel worthwhile.
Best for
Ferry arrivals, apartment stays, longer visits, road trippers, travellers with a car, better value, practical logistics, supermarkets, gyms, and anyone who wants to be close to town without staying directly on the promenade.
Not ideal if…
You want the prettiest hotel setting, sea views from your balcony, or to be right in the heart of the evening atmosphere. This area is much more practical than glamorous.

Hotel Mano
Hotel Mano is a great option if you want an easy, practical stay near the ferry port, with marina views and free parking. It’s particularly handy for road trippers or anyone who wants simple access in and out of town.

Saranda Lux Apartments
Saranda Lux Apartments are a good fit for travellers who prefer a proper apartment rather than a standard hotel room. With kitchen facilities and extra space, it’s a strong choice for families or anyone planning a more self-catered stay in Sarandë.

3️⃣ Maestral Beach / Rruga Butrinti – Best for Sea Views & a More Comfortable Hotel Stay
Maestral Beach and the Rruga Butrinti area are excellent if you want Sarandë to feel a little more like a classic coastal holiday, without being too far from the centre.
This is where we stayed on our second visit to Sarandë, during the off-season. We were on the second street back from the sea, and street parking was easy. The area had more hotels, restaurants, tour offices, and tourist services than the port side, but it still felt relaxed and manageable.

The location was the real highlight. From where we stayed, it was only around a 5–10 minute walk to the promenade, which is pretty much perfect in our opinion. You’re close enough to enjoy morning walks, sunset atmosphere, restaurants, and the waterfront buzz, but you don’t necessarily have to sleep in the busiest part of town.
This area also works well if you want sea views, a more polished hotel, or a slightly more comfortable base overall. It feels more holiday-focused than the port area, while still being practical.
Just check the exact location carefully before booking. Sarandë has hills, and sometimes a sea-view hotel means a sweaty uphill walk after dinner. Very scenic in theory, slightly less charming when you’re doing it in sandals.
Best for
Couples, sea views, nicer hotels, boutique stays, restaurants, tour shops, easy access to the promenade, and travellers who want a good mix of comfort and convenience.
Not ideal if…
You want to be directly on the promenade, dislike uphill walks, or are looking for the cheapest apartment-style base. Some hotels here are much better located than others, so study the map before booking.
Best hotels around Maestral Beach / Rruga Butrinti
🌟TOP LUX Pick🌟

Joelle Premium Hotel
Joelle Premium Hotel is one of the more refined options around Rruga Butrinti, with a 5-star feel, free private parking, and a convenient location for a more comfortable stay in Sarandë without being too far from the promenade.
🌟MID-RANGE Pick🌟

Julia Hotel
Julia Hotel is a reliable mid-range choice with sea views near Maestral Beach, especially if you want comfort without going all-in on luxury. The rooftop breakfast views and free parking make it practical while still feeling like a holiday stay.
This is probably our favourite compromise area in Sarandë. You get a nicer hotel setting, more tourist services, restaurants nearby, and you’re still close enough to the promenade to enjoy the best part of town.
If we were booking a short, holiday-style stay in Sarandë with a little more budget, we’d definitely start by looking around Maestral Beach or Rruga Butrinti.
➡️ If you’re using Sarandë as a base for exploring the south, take a look at our guide to the best places to visit in Albania by car.
4️⃣ Mango Beach / Southern Sarandë – Best for Beach Hotels & Resort-Style Stays
Mango Beach and southern Sarandë are better suited to travellers who care more about the hotel experience than being close to the town centre.

This area has more of a beach-hotel feel, with modern accommodation, pools, sea views, and resort-style places to stay. It can work really well if you want a quieter base, a more polished hotel, or somewhere that feels less like a busy coastal town.
That said, here’s our honest view: we wouldn’t stay this far south just because the area sounds beachy. For us, one of the best parts of Sarandë is being close to the promenade. We love being able to walk there in the morning, go for a run, or head out again at sunset when everyone is outside and the town feels properly alive.
So Mango Beach can be a good choice, but only if you find a hotel that really matches the kind of trip you want. If the hotel has the pool, views, space, facilities, or atmosphere you’re looking for, then it can be worth it. But if you’re choosing it simply because it sounds like the beachiest option, we’d pause before booking.
You’ll be farther from the promenade, central restaurants, ferry port, and main evening atmosphere. That doesn’t make it a bad place to stay, but it does change the feel of your trip.
Best for
Beach-focused hotels, pools, sea views, quieter evenings, couples, resort-style stays, travellers with a car, and anyone comfortable using taxis.
Not ideal if…
You want to walk to the promenade every night, stay close to the ferry port, or have lots of restaurants right outside your door. It also wouldn’t be our first choice for a first visit to Sarandë.
Best hotels near Mango Beach / Southern Sarandë
🌟TOP LUX Pick🌟

Glow Boutique Hotel & Suites
Glow Boutique is one of the better options near Mango Beach if you want a modern, beach-focused stay. It suits travellers who are happy to be farther from central Sarandë in exchange for a more resort-style atmosphere.
🌟TOP APARTMENT Pick🌟

LOOKOUT Apartments
LOOKOUT Apartments are a good pick if you want sea views, apartment space, and easier access to the southern beach area. They’re better for travellers who value views and parking more than being steps from the promenade.
Our Honest Opinion: Where Should You Stay in Sarandë?
If it’s your first time in Sarandë and you want the simplest, easiest base, choose Central Sarandë or the Promenade area. It’s the most convenient option for restaurants, bars, cafes, boat trips, beaches, and evening walks.

If you’re arriving by ferry, travelling with a car, or planning a longer apartment stay, the Port / Kodrra area is a very practical choice. We stayed there for two weeks in August and would happily base ourselves there again.
If you want a slightly nicer hotel stay while still being close to the action, choose Maestral Beach / Rruga Butrinti. This area probably offers the best balance of comfort, location, restaurants, and access to the promenade.
If you’re after a more beachy hotel or resort-style experience, look around Mango Beach / Southern Sarandë, but only if the hotel itself makes the more distant location worthwhile.
For us, the ideal place to stay in Sarandë is somewhere close enough to enjoy the promenade. That’s where the town really comes to life, especially in the evening. We’d rather stay near the port, centre, or Maestral Beach than be too far south and feel a bit disconnected from the best part of town.
What to Know Before Booking Accommodation in Sarandë

✅ Sarandë is larger and more developed than many visitors expect
Sarandë is not a tiny beach village. It’s a proper town with apartment blocks, traffic, hills, supermarkets, beach clubs, ferries, restaurants, and a very busy summer season.
That isn’t necessarily a negative. Compared with Ksamil in August, we actually found Sarandë more balanced and easier to stay in. It had more everyday life, better practical facilities, and didn’t feel quite so completely geared towards tourism.
But don’t book expecting a sleepy little Riviera village. Sarandë is lively, useful, and built up.
✅ The promenade is one of the biggest reasons to stay in Sarandë
For us, the promenade is the highlight of Sarandë. It’s lovely in the morning for a walk or run, and the atmosphere around sunset is great when everyone starts heading outside.
This is why we’d be cautious about staying too far south. A hotel near Mango Beach might look fantastic, but if you like walking out for coffee, dinner, and sunset drinks, you may be happier closer to the centre, port, or Maestral Beach.
✅ Check how hilly the location is before you book
Sarandë is hilly in several areas, and that can really affect your stay. A hotel may technically look “close to the beach” on the map, but still require a steep walk back uphill.
This matters even more in summer heat, or if you’re travelling with luggage, children, or anyone who doesn’t want a daily hill workout after seafood pasta.
Always check the exact location before booking, especially if the hotel advertises sea views.
✅ Parking is important if you’re renting a car
If you’re driving in Albania, parking should be one of the first things you check before booking accommodation in Sarandë.
In the port area, we managed to find street parking without problems. Near Maestral Beach, we also found street parking on the second street back from the sea. But peak season can still be busy, and central Sarandë is not somewhere we’d want to circle around endlessly looking for a space.
If you’re renting a car, look for hotels or apartments with parking, or choose areas where street parking is more realistic.
✅ Apartments can work really well in Sarandë
Sarandë is a great place for an apartment stay, especially if you’re spending more than a couple of nights there.
We liked having grocery shops nearby, fresh produce, and the option to cook occasionally. There are lots of small stores around Sarandë where you can pick up basics, and in the port area we had a Spar close by, which was extremely useful.
And on the nights when cooking felt like a terrible life choice, we ordered from Proper Pizza more often than we should probably admit. The pizzas were genuinely good — Mal was particularly committed to the tuna pizza.
✅ Sarandë is a convenient base for day trips
Sarandë works well as a base if you want to explore southern Albania. From here, you can visit Ksamil, Butrint, the Blue Eye, Gjirokastër, and beaches along the Riviera.
This is where having a car makes a big difference. You don’t necessarily need one if you’re staying centrally and only planning to enjoy Sarandë itself, but for exploring the wider region, it’s very helpful.
➡️ If you’re planning a bigger route, our Albania itinerary will show you how Sarandë fits into a longer trip.

Is Sarandë walkable?
Central Sarandë is very walkable, especially around the promenade, port, and central beaches. However, parts of Sarandë are hilly, so you should always check your hotel’s exact location before booking.

Is it better to stay in Sarandë or Ksamil?
Stay in Sarandë if you want a larger town, more restaurants, better practical facilities, easier ferry access, and a stronger base for day trips.
Stay in Ksamil if beaches are your main priority and you want to be closer to the famous turquoise water. But in peak season, Ksamil can feel very crowded and touristy. We found Sarandë much more balanced in August.

Do you need a car in Sarandë?
You don’t need a car if you’re staying centrally and mainly want to enjoy the promenade, restaurants, local beaches, and boat trips.

➡️ Read our guide to driving in Albania, where we share everything you need to know before getting behind the wheel.
Where should I stay in Sarandë with a car?
If you have a car, we’d focus on the Port / Kodrra area or Maestral Beach / Rruga Butrinti. Both worked well for us with street parking, although that can change depending on the season and the exact location.
The most central promenade area can be less convenient for parking, especially during peak summer.
Is the port area a good place to stay in Sarandë?
Yes, the port area can be a very good place to stay in Sarandë, especially for longer visits, apartment stays, ferry arrivals, and travellers with a car.
We stayed just behind the ferry port for two weeks in August and found it practical, easy, and much more balanced than Ksamil in peak season. We had supermarkets, a gym, street parking, good local restaurants, and the beach within walking distance.
Is Maestral Beach a good area to stay in Sarandë?
Yes, Maestral Beach is one of the best areas to stay in Sarandë if you want a nicer hotel stay close to the promenade. It has more restaurants, hotels, tour shops, and tourist facilities, while still being close enough to walk into the main waterfront area.
We stayed near Maestral Beach in the off-season and really liked the balance it offered.
Should you stay near Mango Beach in Sarandë?
Mango Beach can be a good choice if you want a more beach-focused hotel stay, sea views, pools, and a slightly quieter base. However, it is farther from the promenade and central Sarandë.
We’d only stay here if we found a hotel we really loved. Otherwise, we’d personally prefer to be closer to the port, centre, or Maestral Beach.
How many nights should you stay in Sarandë?
For most Albania road trips, 2–3 nights in Sarandë is enough. That gives you time to enjoy the town, visit Ksamil or Butrint, and possibly add a day trip to the Blue Eye or Gjirokastër.
If you want beach time, boat trips, and slower evenings on the promenade, you could easily stay longer.
Final Thoughts on Where to Stay in Sarandë
Sarandë is not the calmest place on the Albanian Riviera, but it is one of the most practical. It has ferries, restaurants, supermarkets, gyms, apartments, beach hotels, boat trips, and enough going on to make it a very useful base for exploring southern Albania.
If you want the easiest first-time stay, book near Central Sarandë or the Promenade. If you’re staying longer or travelling with a car, the Port / Kodrra area is far more practical than it might sound at first. If you want the best mix of comfort, sea views, and location, look around Maestral Beach / Rruga Butrinti.
And if you’re drawn to Mango Beach, just make sure the hotel is worth being farther from the centre.
For us, the best part of Sarandë is staying close enough to enjoy the promenade — morning walks, sunset strolls, people-watching, seafood dinners, and that lively mix of locals and travellers. Choose an area that lets you enjoy that side of town, and Sarandë becomes a much better base.
